This weekend
Hooked up the skiff and launched on the island with Albert Bruno Saturday and Albert and Lucas Gomes (a young fly club member) today. Yesterday was colder than a well diggers arse, but sunny, and today was much warmer and cloudy with a drizzle of rain.
We left with an assortment of small sticks and sinktip/intermediate lines and the intent to find big trout and we were half way right, as we found trout of all sizes except "big".
They were sporty on 3s & 4s but we didn't mess with em long either day.
The sunshine yesterday literally heated up the kitchen for us and we found reds/puppy drum right where they should have been, on oyster beds and dark mud bottoms in 3 to 5ft of water, and Lord knows they eat when the sun shines down!
Some lower slots and some "nots" that will be "slots" by next summer, but even they possessed the skill sets to make us "happy/happy/happy" with just a tid of length and girth needed to back up their spunk.
Great two days with great buddies and willing fish. Size definitely matters, but "willing" is the wild card this time of year, especially when you could see the pups up along the shoreline so tight they made the marsh grass shake at high tide.
Good Fishing!!!
