My first ranchero and fish of the year

Postby Emerson » Sun Jan 01, 2012 7:06 pm

Only day for a long time around here that will be fishable. I was competing with lots of items...people, mad dogs, hikers, lookers and mowers.
Had one fish on with a #20 zebra nymph(could be a ranchero) then changed to my huge fly.
Got this guy..

Had a huge fish knock the fly down twice..jiggled fly and fish took off (this counts as ranchero #1). I had read that brown trout will smack a fish..stun it and then go over and eat it when they are on the bottom. Sounds easy to let fly sit but much easier to say then do.

Last cast was long to get all line out to wind up..as I was lifting fly out of water..huge head hits it...off. (ranchero #2)

We were trying to Skype you today. You were fishing, we were getting fat and happy. Sorry we could not do both together. Happy New Year.
