Shenandoah County VA week of 4/25

Postby BCflyfisher2012 » Thu Apr 28, 2011 2:20 pm

Got out a few days this past week to check and see if my fishing skills were still intact after nearly 5 months of inactivity. They were a little rusty but I can still catch fish. Fished a local native Brook trout stream in an effort to break in the newest member of my fly rod family, a 4pc 6'6" 2/3 weight built for me by Toddkfly. It worked great. If my casting and hook setting skills hadn't been a little rusty I probably could have gone 3 for 3 instead of 1 for 3. Managed a beautiful 4" brookie

here and then had to pack it in for the evening. Headed out again yesterday to the local stocked trout stream and fished one of my honey holes. Picked up 4 or 5 rock bass, a 14" brown

, a solid 8-10" smallmouth bass, and a beautiful 18" brook trout

. All in all it has been a great week. Hoping the recent rains didn't get the stream running too high so I can slip back out for an hour or so this afternoon. These trout have me hooked worse than ever.....

sorry the pics are perfect. Im still learning how to use my new fishing camera.

I know where there is a really dumb rainbow in there if you want it.
Are you getting one of the guys to guide you or is this on your own?

Seissmack. It's one of the largest for me from Shenandoah County. Things were different than usual this spring for brookies because the state stocked a lot of them into Stony creek west of edinburg. The ones they put in were all 12" or bigger so its been a blast out there with 3 and 4 weight rods.
