Didn't get rained out

Postby mb82 » Wed Mar 09, 2011 9:28 pm

Rained on, sleeted on, snowed on yes but not rained out.

Headed up to Smith Creek and Suzy Q farms near Harrisonburg with ToddKfly and my dad this morning. For a stream that I think of as a brown trout area we sure caught a lot of bows, and no browns. Todd was the trout whisperer today not sure what his number was at the end of it.
Todd with what will look familiar

Todds big bow of the day.

So nearing the end of the day I had caught one 14 inch bow. Hit on of my favorite holes and hooked into a pig of a bow. It came unbuttoned. I hit the ground questioning why. About 5 minutes later same fish grabbed the fly I nearly got it to the net and again it came off. After this we moved to a different hole and again lost a fish. Kinda had been a theme of the day. Well before we left I said forget it one more time in that hole. Stripped the fly right by the same spot and guess what! Yep again fly stops I send that hook home and yep same fish. Finally landed it.

Persistence( stubbornness) paid off. The fish had been fighting and its nose was bleeding fairly well. Still fought well on the 5wt, should have since I think it is the biggest bow I have ever caught.

Dad ended the day with one 16 in bow out of the same hole I got my big one and lots of misses. Had a great day with Dad and Todd and it was nice to finally catch some fish, been going through a 7 month slump since I caught something besides one 8 inch long spec at HRBT.

Enjoyed the day with you guys despite mother nature's attempt to make it difficult.

I love early season streamer fishing. Rarely do you get a small fish (trout). Did hang a couple nice chubs in addition to the pork chop bows.

Heh.....
The rule is ...YA gotta take pictures of trash fish and of course post them! We like seeing all kinds. :D

There is nothing better than someone saying to a person "nice chub!" ;)

Good solid effort, guys; pretty bows.
20" is not 20 lbs.
