Alaska part 2

Postby Emerson » Tue Aug 17, 2010 7:20 pm

Continuation..

Danny is making sure this baby does not get away!

here is a grayling's dorsal fin...it really is beautiful with a good shocking blue along the rear of the fin..
IMGP2629.jpg

Now...while walking along the stream..other animals..even larger and willing to eat more than me are around..
IMGP2631.jpg

Jim and Dog saw a bear about 40 yards ahead of them swimming downstream..it got out of the water and went into the brush. Another bear that we saw was huge...the guides estimated it to be 750 to 800 lbs....wow!

We have 2 of us and one guide per boat giving us 3 rafts going on down..
IMGP2672.jpg

At the end of each fishing day, we find a suitable camping spot...run the rafts aground and set up our tents as the guides set up the dinner tent..

IMGP2674.jpg

During the last night around dark...midnight...we were treated to a special kind of double rainbow..
IMGP2675.jpg

Also this reddish sky followed...
IMGP2679.jpg

The better cameras should make this really look special..

Sunrise was neat the last morning..
IMGP2681.jpg

Hugh was looking for his pet...
IMGP2682.jpg

Yup...found him just where he left him..
IMGP2683.jpg

We then ran at 30 mph for 2 hours in these guys to get back to Bethel..
IMGP2696.jpg

Then hang around Bethel for 8 hours...flight to Anchorage and then an 11 pm flight the next day home...long 3 days to get back but we had a blast

Great pics Em. Looks like you had a fun trip. Got my blood a pumping. We leave friday morning for our trip there. Think I have everything packed. What I have been seeing look like you had lot of rain.

We had a great trip, even with the challenging weather and below average salmon numbers. This was my 3rd time. The fishing was so good the first 2 times it was hard to maintain reasonable expectations. But we all caught a number of really nice rainbows and nice char over 18 inches, and lots of grayling. And I think everyone caught silvers.

Two of my favorite pics from the trip:

Jim..we had rain each day but just by averages you should have a few good days. The silvers should be in full tilt! Long articulated leeches in pink or purple will get them immediately! Have a blast and report back!

Everyone had the joy of sharing a tent and a raft with E-Normous. We all had a good time. What else would be expected
