New 4K camera with "level shot" feature

Postby kendalloz » Fri Jun 20, 2014 3:43 pm

  :?:

This new Lumix camera is a higher-end point-and-shoot. it shoots 4K video. But at HD video (1080P) is has a 5-axis stabilizer and a so-called "level shot" feature that is supposed to keep the horizon level if the camera it tilting! Hard to believe it would work in a boat....but very curious to see a demonstration. Could be a good boat video camera. Also shoots 1080 at 60P which is nice for slow motion. Also shoots 120 frames a sec in some type of HD resolution (might be up-scaled 720P). It is supposed to focus as fast as the Lumix GH4 which focuses faster than a Nikon D4 (Jumping fish?) ??? That is a lot for $900. Will be interesting to see the reviews.

Does Panasonic still use a crappy proprietary video format?

Hugh, It shoots AVCHD and MP4 as best I can tell. Rumors are it shoots video at 50 mpbs which is much more data/detail than most DSLRs that shoot around 25. Of course the files are larger as well. And it takes more computer hardware to edit. The Lumix cameras have a great reputation in the video world now as Lumix listened to what folks wanted in video (unlike Nikon and Canon). I would expect the video to be very very good.

If I find some reviews I will post them.

This could be a nice option if you want to shoot RAW stills and great video with one camera and not carry a lot of gear....just one camera and some batteries and memory cards. But I think some photo editing software does not yet support the new Lumix RAW pic files. And with wi-fi you can control it from an ipad or smart phone. :o

The body is metal but I do not think it is weather sealed like the GH4.

The GH4 is weather sealed and is the best video camera around under $20,000 and it is $1600. Quad-core chip in a camera! You can use Nikon glass if you do not mind manual focus. Look at the user reviews....
