2017 VCFA House Report #1

Postby fishermike » Sat Oct 14, 2017 7:12 pm

Hi! Wow! It's finally here after waiting almost a year, but we are back at the House on Harkers Island and we are open for fishing! :D We were out today and it was very frustrating. We did boat one albie, but we had to have had over a 100 shots at sipping albies. Time after time we would throw our flies right in the middle of them and they would refuse to eat. We did not see too many fly fishermen get hooked up, but the spin fishermen seemed to have much better luck. We could see them on our depth finder and they were down around 15-20 feet when they were not splashing on the surface, and the spin fishers if they were using lures like sting silvers would have them sink to about that depth by the time they had reeled their slack line from the cast. Think that is what was going on. Although some would think we might be purist fly fishermen, I think we will have some spin gear on board tomorrow. Wx forecast is for calm conditions in the morning and then the wind will begin to blow in the afternoon and keep on blowing for much of next week :| a real downer. But there are other places and fish to target other than albies if we can't get out after them because of the conditions. Last year we had a couple of guys fish Shackleford Is from the shore when the wind blew and they caught an 8 lbs flounder and 7 lbs puppy drum! Sometimes these wx guys are wrong so we have our fingers crossed. The house is open so if you have some free time come on by, 114 Pintail Lane, to swap stories and make plans. Thanks again, hope to see you all on the water with rods bowed up! Tight lines, mike buss
