VCFA House Report #2

Postby fishermike » Mon Oct 20, 2014 8:31 pm

Hi! Skunk is off the house!! :D We had a nice day and the conditions were very favorable, light variable winds and lots of sunshine, and the albies cooperated up to a point. The calm water allowed us to dredge our lines, 400 to 650 grain, almost straight down and we got down to 40-45'. We caught them from the #2 red marker off the rock jetty down to almost 2/3 miles south of Shark Island on the west side. We looked for bait balls on the depth finder with what looked to be predators close by and then drove upwind and drifted over them. We did have a boat cross over the shoals and fish the East side and ran into lots of birds over a mix of albies, bluefish and small Spanish. Unfortunately, they were up and down so fast that it was hard to get any casts to them and when you did get your fly in the mix an aggressive bluefish would grab it and most of the time bite you off! :|We ended up hooking up 7 and landing 6 albies, so we are off to a nice start and with the favorable conditions forecast for tomorrow, we are looking forward to another good day! :D The house is open, 114 Pintail Lane, and we welcome all of you to stop by and share some stories! Thanks and tight lines to all, mike
