3 Old Guys, 3 Flyrods, 3 Hour Drive (one way) & 3 Big Grins

Steve Langham, Ron Stone and I made a 3 hour drive to the upper Roanoke River this morning (6 hr round trip) to fish for 4 1/4 hours and were reminded again, on this first trip up why you keep right on going past the creeks off the Neuse to head to the Mother Lode!

For a true beginner, a fairly experienced caster, and me (I can go both ways and cover the entire spectrum with the good, the bad & the ugly of fly fishing), once we dropped the hook, set the auxiliary 15lb mushroom, we worried one heck of a nice mess of mostly nice roe shad under the watchful eyes of a half dozen ospreys.

One 3wt and one 4wt got passed around like an old family Bible at a reunion, and the dehooker may need a day off to rest!

Nice job to Steve, who had his first real dose of fly fishing for shad, and I think he might just need a few more,

and to Ron (Nanook of the North) for remembering just how to do it from a trip last year!
