Tossed Some Cabin Fever Out Sunday

Postby SOBX » Mon Feb 10, 2014 7:22 am

Feb 9th was forecast to be mid-50s by late afternoon, so Albert Bruno and I decided to kick the cabin fever demons out and risk replacing it with skunkitis! ;) Weatherman and the Skunk can kiss my ---- nevermind!

Made Maple Cyprus landing and Contentnea Creek (off the Neuse) at 12:00 and were greeted by 44 degree water and just enough fish (first of the year shad & crappie)

to keep the 3 & 4 wts warm enough to give us hope that after this mid-week's winter weather Spring will finally start looking like a possibility! ;) Not fussing much, 'cause it pretty much sucks from northern FLA to north of us, thinking about trading Joan Baez's Forever Young for some Forever Warm!!!

nice work chuck. i've not had much luck with early february shad fishing...so i rarely do it anymore. plus i hate the cold. but those cypress creeks sure do soothe a soul, don't they. will be heading down closer to the equator this week to chase some grey ghosts, and hope the shad and warmer waters begin the influx here while i'm gone. btw, if you like dylan's forever young, you must listen to audra mae's cover of it...a capella, and the best i've ever heard. stay warm...

What we did was not really a fishing trip, we just needed to get out of the house and into some sunshine and I guess our choice of waters was as just as predicated by age as our versions of Dylan's lyrics. At 60 and 60 plus we went small instead of chasing gar to 20lbs, and we'll stick with Baez instead of Audra since it is not about the artist so much as it is about the memories from days, friends & fish long gone. ;)

Don't take me wrong or even as an "old school" vs "new school" old fart , everyday is a blessing as long as you're "in school"! :D

Enjoy the islands and the grey ghosts, may they big big enough to surf on and to plentiful to count, if so, they'll help you age like fine wine instead of ending up as run of the mill vinegar.
