Blizzard Of 2014

How'd the big snow leave everything down east? Hope you're all warm and dry.

Most everybody faired just fine. About an inch to 1 1/2 inches on top of about that much ice and schools out, some public offices open late today.

Trout and reds will most likely take it on the chin, but that has yet to be confirmed. Not as much ice or snow as the last major cold stun event in 2010/201, so we'll just wait and see.

Should be in 50s/60s by weekend.

Good Fishing!!!

sounds like 1" of ice and 9 inches of snow on the northern end --lots of ice in the sound . will find out first hand tonight --we have not been home in 12 days. we have been in the frozen north. The highest temps i have seen in 10 days was 20 yesterday. 8 degrees last night

We got 8 to 11 inches in the Norfolk, VA Beach area. It was 11 in Norfolk this morning, 2 at Oceanana Air Station. Rudee is frozen. There have been some small fish kills in Lynnhaven and on the Shore...hopefully no more.

We had a dusting and some ice here in Hickory tues, schools out since :| . Temps have been unreal, 4-5 at night 10 during the day.
I sure hope the trout didn't take too big of hit.
Weekend finally looks like we're going to get a break.
You know it's rough when 30 (yesterday afternoon) feels like 75 :D

Cobia will be coming soon ;)

Major reports of cold stun events throughout the state, confirmed by NCDMF already in Beaufort & Hyde (need 4 counties to shut fishery) so I would forecast a proclamation today with the weekend coming up.

That will place a moratorium on specks for both recs and comms, and unlike the last time this was done, there will be no by-catch provisions for comms.

Not politics by me at all, just stating the facts of what, in my opinion will happen and what did happen.

So back to square one with specks. Just Mother Nature showing us once again that the only fisheries management we can control is what WE DO, nothing else! ;)

Chuck,

That is a bummer. Is it all specks or are some reds included? We have local reds up here in VA but the kills have been specks. Seems like the reds are ok.

And I was wrong about the low being 11. It was 6! Last time I recall that was in the early 80s when it went to 7. I could stand on the ice in our cove today.

I guess there will lots of food for the eagles.

Mostly specks so far, but I suspect some drum will be found, especially in the more inland creeks both north and west of here.

My friends, you live with what God and Mother Nature do, if there is anything sad about North Carolina it is what the state allows us to do! ;)

"Nuff said, and Lord knows I hope y'all understand.

Good Fishing!!!
