2013 Erie to Harkers trip

Postby Sharpefly » Tue Nov 05, 2013 6:50 am

Arrived at the Fishing Center wednsday the 30th at noon to flat calm launched boat and headed to the hook. Got out to the jetty caught our first albies for the this year. Was a great afternoon.
Thursday headed out early with everyone went to the shoals fish everywhere. Fish on till wind and rain came, headed in after noon little to snooty.
Friday big blow day no fishing. Went to the fly shop and then to Jones Brothers and had a great tour with Donnie.Mike who was with me intersted one of the boats. That evening went to the Cape Lookout Fly Fishers banquet. Good meal and fellowship.
Saturday another windy day but we headed out to the hook in the afternoon. Out side the hook was nasty so played around in side for a couple hours caught our needle fish for the year. That evening went to the barbecue at Toms house another great evening with good found and lots of stories.
Sunday headed out early towards the shoals with everyone. We did find fish and it was way to rough for us so headed to Beaufort. Seas mush better ther but all we found was blues. Ran down to Bogue with no luck. Worked our way back to the inlet weather was getting worse so headed in. With the next few day not looking good packed up and headed to Virginia Beach to give it a shot.
Arrived there with the same wind on the Bridge Tunnel. So went to supper at Charlies for his she crab soup. After supper headed to Hampton Bridge no one there, wind bad.
Deceided with the wind for the next couple day to head back to Lake Erie. Pulled in home around noon yesterday spent the afternoon cleaning boat and gear.
All in all had another great year, meet alot of old friends and made some new ones. Already looking forward to next year.
Hope everyone still there has as good a time as we did.

Jim,
Great report...glad you got some alberts but most glad you challenged the wily needle and beat him..or her  They are rare...and tough to crack. Next year your goal should be the needle slam...both species in one day! A trophy to stay in your mind forever!

Glad you all had fun..see you in Jan! :D

Sounds like a pretty darn good trip. So you're saying there was some wind? Story of my fall so far.

It is a shame the weather did not cooperate, but sounds like you made the best of it.

Yeah Mark last Thursday was some of the busier fishing and Jim got a good dose--was in the middle of it...its been kinda bit disagreeable water conditions since-dirty, tough boat handling, etc than anything. Missed you this year.
