While not 100% sure, I'd say it is a juvenile butterfish.

Good Fishing!!!

A few more...

Intense boils. Not your typical Albie bust.

Team Gumby getting it done. Of course we slipped in for a quick poach but had our fish demolished by a good sized Shark.

killing me--i spun a water pump hub on the way there. sorry to miss this years migration of the buffalos. Three years ago it was the day before and they were from the slot to the Sheridan.

when the big smelts or bay anchovies move through you can except to find the buffalos --i would think they are going by Wrightsville Beach by now :(

Hooking up triples was a blast...but maybe a little too much chaos in tight spaces. On one triple, Em and Gary's fish decided to do the twist and that resulted in a major fly line cluster, which had to be untangled by hand. When my fish came unhooked, I turned around and Gary and Em were hand-lining their fish! Both rods were sitting on the deck, with fly lines wrapped around the tips several times. But they each got their fish in hand and no rods were harmed.

For me, the greatest moment from this weekend happened in the sky over my head, and had nothing to do with the fishing. On Saturday, we were easing down the shoreline on the East Side, when we noticed a pair of Peregrines chasing another bird just above my boat. That bird dove for the boat and landed literally at my feet. It was a Flicker, and it fluttered around on the boat for a few moments before taking off again. Less than 5 seconds after take-off, Mr. Flicker was intercepted by one of the Falcons. Game over. :o :o

Sunday was last of 4 days I fished with Smoot.
Day 1 - Can't get anywhere to look for fish
Day 2 - Get out but find very few, only catch one (plus blues)
Day 3 - Find more fish - lots of shots and refusals. only get one - on a snot fly (plus blues and spanish)
Day 4 - add Stuart Lee, Mayham!

We had already landed a bunch heading down atlantic beach, including a triple on 17-18 lb fish. Then we drifted right on a bait ball of big silversides which tried to seek refuge under the boat for over an hour. Big albies and sharks swarmed the entire time. Just looking down in the water and watching was enough to make for a great day. But we still had a few rods, which got bent repeatedly. Big fish. After that broke up, we could find the bait down low, and dreged up a few more. For the day we caught 3 "small" albies - meaning low teens. The rest of the 30+ fish caught were high teens to 20 lbs.

Thanks Smoot and Stuart for an amazing day.
