bendback and crease fly

Postby fredslann » Tue May 05, 2009 7:11 am

Here is a few flies I made...one is a bendback tied on a #4Khale hook with the shank bent just a bit...a good tie tip from good friend Buddy Rogers here in the Neuse Basin area. It's made of craft fur with a bit of midge accent on top. It works well here and resist some of the hangs of the bottom..it sinks very slow. It has the Goo on it.

Here is a Small Crease with an additional foam collar to make the head a tad bigger. I pops pretty good and has a small rattle inside too. Kary Via showed me how to make this one. I fish it on an intermeidiate line so the line takes the fly under after the first pop and slowly rises back up to the top and I can pop it again...kind of like workin a stick bait where you twitch it under...let it float...twitch. It really works good here on local waters.

Great flies, Fred. The olive/white (with krystal flash) color combo on the
bendback is a real bite getter. I noticed the other night that it is an obvious
recurring theme in my fly boxes.

There is an article in the latest American Angler on the Snag Free Delight designed by our local hero Chris Newsome and tied on a worm hook...similar kinda idea to using a Kahle hook. Page 61 or 62 I think...left my copy at the gym. :?

Hey Dave,
You and Dr C-bar should get 2 Goo kits from Fred...you need the UV light and 2 syringes (right down your alley) of thick and thin and off to the races. Fred's stuff is great!!!!!! You can use it for traditional ties/methods and then try some atypical  ...my favs...

I used some SunGuard that is used for fixing holes in surf boards. It is very fluid like putting on something as thick as milk..I put it on some sneaky petes (for smallmouth bass) that I was making to harden up the entire popper body..used the UV light to get it started then actually found some sun and it dried great. I am next going to put that on some crease flies....
