Copper John's

Postby teachrtec » Tue Nov 24, 2009 8:13 pm

I have been on a Copper John kick for the last week trying to tie that row of my nymph box back full. As I worked at em along and got the box presentable I started tying some with two wires. Black/gold, blue/red, blue/green, and green/blue (peacock). Do any of you all tie em in dual colors? Just curious if you do what combos you like best?

I've had good luck with brown/copper and red/copper, using copper wire one size smaller than the brown or red. Kinda gives a different ribbed effect; don't know if it matters but I like how it looks.

I tied a few this summer for guiding but found that the two tone didnt make much of a difference vs. the original. The two different colors definitely looks cool, I prefer maroon and orange as a Virginia Tech alum. I heard about some study that rainbow trout react to blue exceptionally well and tied a few up in blue and black. I fished them a bit and they worked, but nothing better than usual. Clients thought they looked cool though
