Midge pupae or emerger

Postby Emerson » Sat Mar 03, 2012 7:30 am

This pattern is super easy to tie and most important..WORKS. I have tried it on a small stream(Valley Creek) that has only native fish and is fished hard...very hard. Right now we are getting good midge hatches. Lots of people are getting major rejections but this has proven to be very effective.

Hook:Tiemco 2488 size 20
Thread: Black now, gray later in year
Tie in 1 piece of red Krystal flash 1/2 way down bend
Build up slight abdomen
Rib with the Krystal flash to almost hook eye
Tie in McFlylon in orange or pink facing front. Take a few wraps in front of post to get wing 45 degrees
Loosely dub super fine gray behind wing..3 wraps
Pull McFlylon back to bend and cut..this will give wing correct length
Place floatant on wing which is at a 45 going front ...that way other portion of fly sinks giving the emerger feeling

The fly:

It works:

The person that showed me said it works well out west also!

E,

For a guy with kielbasa for fingers, you tie some pretty cool little flies. I believe those would strain my eyes and my patience

I need to stick to chicken-on-a-hook.

So show up with a knife and know how to shuck.
