Long feathers???

Postby hh65cdr » Sat Mar 26, 2011 3:59 pm

Where can I order the longest possible hackle feathers? Seems women want to wear them in their hair now

I think they're all in women's heads. Check out the prices on Ebay.

I get some nice feathers form a guy named Ron McKusick up in Maine. Here is a link to his store. http://www.feathersideflies.com/

Good selection and very good prices. I buy Jungle Cock feathers from him.

Doesn't surprise me. Dated a girl who loved my squid flys. Turns out she wanted to make them into earrings

Are you living in Richmond now?

This is no help to you now but one reason i like to go to fly fishing shows is that the feather merchants are there with inventory and i can actually cull through what they have to find what I want. As stores go out of busness and we rely more on the internet, finding something special like extra long feathers or buck tail gets harder.

Last long ones I got were from a now closed local shop (Crab Creek Outfitters). Got some pretty long ones at the Raleigh Show this year (long but not high quality but that is good for what I do). You might try calling these folks...

Saw some on TV today, but they were in the UK. Shipping to the states might be expensive!

MB82- No I'm not, I was in town from northern VA for a family 5k. Got a bunch of fam and friends down there though and wouldn't mind becoming a resident of the velvet coffin as my uncle calls Richmond. I have applied to a few jobs, but no luck so far, just like the last 4-5 months. Might be another season of guiding out in Aspen for me, which wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

Oh and the chick just got a free fly fishing lesson from me on the Rapp. Apparently those hair hackle feathers were really worth her while!
