April 10th Rudee Report Lots of Action 1 Fish landed

Postby kendalloz » Wed Apr 10, 2013 5:10 pm

Had the afternoon off and with the falling tide went to Rudee. Saw some specks no bites. Found a school of nice little reds 25-inch average. They would follow and roll on and peck at flies but never got one to the boat. Had a few light bites. Very fun but also a little frustrating. Threw a gulp out there same thing. There were a lot of yakers around throwing gulps so I guess the fish have had enough of the gulps. Finally got a bite casting to the school of reds...it turned out to be a 26 inch trout. But it was a gray not a speck! Have not seen a gray that big for at least 5 years. Took a few pics of her and watched her swim away. There is a pic of her on the VCFA facebook page. All the sunning trout had eagle and/or osprey scars on them. I guess the reds are smarter as they were staying a little deeper.

Awesome! We catch a lot of grays in the fall at night but I think my biggest in the past couple years has been 15 inches.

Im pumped to hear the reds are in the inlet.

I have hopes for a great redfish year...we had so many small ones last year...winter was not too bad...A commercial crabber working the Lafayette River said he is running into schools of nice drum while working his pots...more than he has ever seen!!!!! :o :D
