HRBT December 14 for 2 hours....

Postby kendalloz » Fri Dec 14, 2012 7:06 pm

Fished the ebb current at the HRBT today for 2 hours. Kinda slow...got 3 small stripers all on fly. Sorry no pics. Marked some decent numbers but they were not in the eating mood.

It's been a tough season. You did better that some friends of mine who went to the CBBT and only caught one 22" fish. They fished from the 2nd Island to the fourth.

Were your three keepers?

Two were 20-inches one 17 inches. All were nice and fat though. Two will be on the grill tonight! ;)

Fished the CBBT all day yesterday from my Maverick- From the 1st to the 4th, did not see a single fish! Actually only saw one, a nice fish being thrashed by a seal about 1/2 mile from the 3rd. Never been skunked before... where are all the fish?

Matti
saw you out there, at the third island - on the end with the seals hanging out.
7am to 330pm and we managed one on 18 1/4" fish in the rip streaming west from that island just a little earlier than you were there - my friend on a buck tail. we had seen a troller land a mid 30's fish in that spot, so worked it a bit. just the one little fish. :?

Trying to avoid crowds we cruised up outside smith island looking for birds early. It was barren.
Pretty day for a boat ride. Good company.

the bus came by and I got on
that's when it all began

Thought I had recognized the boat.... I should have come to say hello, but did not see any fly rods! Was a pretty day for sure. Would have been better with some fish.... I am hoping for some good days without crowds in January. It seems to be getting tougher to find those wonderful fish!

Seems like the number of fish this year is WAY down...at least so far.

Been slower on fly for sure especially at the CBBT. There has been a school of smaller fish, 20-30" hanging off NPC this last week which I plan on spending some time with later this week.
