Jan. 29 report

Postby jsaunders » Mon Jan 30, 2012 9:38 pm

I am going to start posting more reports this year... since so many of the reports on this board have helped me find fish that I probably wouldn't have found otherwise, and the lack of C&R reports from the bay is frustrating. My wife and I fished out of Kiptopeke yesterday(1/29). Just outside of the ships there were a few scattered gannets diving, nothing major, but as we ran north toward plantation light, there was a false bottom of bait on the depth finder so we stopped and jigged since the fish were in 50' of water. I caught a 48"er and she caught a 49"er right off the batt... we stayed around there for a few hours with nothing else to show except a schoolie. We ran out to the ocean side of SI and north a few miles, saw lots of gannets diving in 20' of water, but couldn't find any fish. Ran back into the bay and found a few pods of fish under terns, north of the 3rd, caught them on flies, small schoolies, but we did have some much larger fish chase them to the boat. They were up and down quick.
