Potomac River, 10/23

Postby TLT » Mon Oct 24, 2011 7:36 pm

With a yearning for bird activity, a fishing buddy and I headed to the Potomac on Sunday. We launched at Cole's Point and fished down to Point Lookout. We found birds as soon as we got to to the MD side of the river. The smaller flocks held bigger fish and would come up and go back down quickly, but you could still catch them with patience. The larger flocks of birds stayed put for quite a while and the water boiled with stripers and blues chasing SNOT! We caught fish on every cast for a couple of hours. They weren't big lots of fun. It was a gorgeous fall day with light winds.

Wont be long Tom! Tons of bait around so hopeful it continues through the late fall. Would love to see the big stripers stick around this year vs. 12 miles out int he ocean.

You got that right Todd! I will be back on the Potomac this Sunday. Great speck you caught a couple of weeks ago.

Specks have been very willing and numerous this fall. Even seeing great numbers right in Chisman Creek which is out of the ordinary but will take it. Spoke to my brother-in-law last night up in Montauk and the stripers seem to be on their way out heading south. They had an epic Fall run so let's see how that translates for us. Good luck this weekend on the Potomac!
