Reports from last couple of weeks

Postby toddkfly » Tue Jul 19, 2011 11:30 pm

Been mixing it up a bit when given the oppotunity to get out and have managed to find a couple decent cobia here and there but have not been able to get them up top on the fly. Water has been very dirty on the western edges of the Bay with storm run off so most of the fish have been down on the bottom. Did drift the eastern side a couple of times with he bag deployed and only had a million and a half 10" bluefish eat the paint of the bottom of my 1910LT. Went out Monday with Capt. Donnie as he wanted to fish with some of his pals so I ran his 31' Shamrock from up in his tower and covered almost every inch of the lower bay looking for the brown bombers-nada, zilch. Snotty in the AM but laid down nice which was the exact opposite of what was called for, go figure. Lot's of very small bait around, with micro blues scattered on them. Got up near York spit and started to see some small forked tails mixed in with the blues so we slowed down and found a few spanish in the 16-20" range. Was cool to spend a day 20' up in the air looking down in the water for a change. Definitely a different perspective from up there. Busy stretch of working coming so hope to catch a break again soon to get back at it.

Been different for sure. Most consistent fishing has been down deep for the cobes unfortunately. Historically as we get into August and Septemeber, they will move up around the buoys and present more opportunities with the fly. Time will tell. Hope to make a Mobjack run next week in between work trips if possible.
