Lafayette River - Speck-a-go-go

Postby kendalloz » Fri Oct 08, 2010 1:51 pm

Fished the ebb current in the Lafayette this afternoon. maybe 2-hours. Gobs of specks. Often every cast! All were small but there were so many it was fun. Most caught fishing down current and they'd hit the fly on the drop or drop-back. Very gentle hits hard to feel...took that speck 6th sense to get a lot of 'em. I think this was the biggest of the day...

mb, they light up on the ebb. On the flats by NIT they can be on the main drop off or on the smaller drop offs on the flats....like where it drops from 4 to 6-feet. At the beginning of ebb they can be on the corner (SE) in 3-5 feet of water. There is a seam there. Also on the seems in the rips along the main drop. You can be in very strong current on the flat (seems too strong for specks) but they will be on the bottom in breaks in the current due to drop offs and structure. They were so thick today I could mark them on the bottom machine. If going tomorrow try between 1300 and 1700 and if you do not get hits in a spot move till you do. Be sure to fish down current and twitch/drop back the fly. I tried a glup today as well (due to weak hand from surgery) and it was literally every cast. Pumpkin color.

Just got off the phone with a friend who fished by yak later today. He got 1 25-inch red on gulp but we fished different places. Glad to see OV is around! Good luck. I cannot give away a friend's spot but this is an interesting site...too bad they do not allow launching yaks from the property. maybe we can change that.

KO OZ.

I work with the Curator of Grounds at the Hermitage a lot - Just designed another wetland restoration project for them (on their west side). Want me to ax about the launching?
