Marine VHF w/ wireless mic

Postby KnotCase » Mon Nov 17, 2014 8:46 am

Anyone using a wireless mic with their marine VHF? Recommendations? Advice on how to avoid dropping the damn thing overboard?

Intrigued by the buddy tracking feature...Seems like it might be really useful as a back-up to GumbyGPS.

GumbyGPS? As in Gumbyland, disneyland, lumpenasia, etc...?

Does your ICOM have DSC? In theory, with DSC and a connection between VHF radio and chart plotter, your radio could exchange position info with another similarly-equipped vessel. In theory.

Not sure anyone has really figured out how to make it work.

no mine does not ---basic radio --really not interested in 299.00 radio and 299.00 command mike. Cheapest solution is learn to use Lat and Long numbers --you do not need to use degrees on minutes and seconds --as the degrees will not change north of shoals until you get way north. We use TDs or loran numbers out of Oregon Inlet and it is second nature
