OBX Horseback riding

Postby Todd » Sat May 30, 2009 3:00 pm

I am bringing the kids to fish with Sarah in June. My daughter wants to ride horses. Anyone aware of a good operation? Any other ideas for non-fishing activities? We will probably fly kites at Kitty Hawk again. Thanks

Todd,
As Cutter said..the aquarium was a most stop each and every year..it is as kid friendly as you can get..they all loved it!

Then..on the way back....stop at the Weeping Radish for lunch...see if your kids say what my daughter said when I ordered the large boot of beverage!    Great food and brewery!

Sorry to tell you, the Weeping Radish in Manteo is no more. There is still the Weeping Radish Farm Brewery on North Caratoke Hwy, but that's a bit of a drive.

Best riding is at Equine Adventures in Buxton 995-4897

While in Buxton go to the Hatteras Lighthouse

then go see the Indian Museum in Frisco Native American Museum 995-4440 (one of our best kept secrets- eclectic yes, quirky -yes but some artifacts like you cannot believe)

see if the Alligator River National Refuge is doing night redwolf howling- 473-1744

Jockeys Ridge is fun to walk up and let the kids roll down- all my children have done that
Hang glide while you are there with Kitty Hawk Kites 441-4124

Have you been to the Wright memorial? Wright Brothers and is very educational about flight

Try the wild horse tours in Corolla 489-2020

Great family fun is a half day explore the sounds charter out of Broad Creek Marina 473-5344- some of the tours include a small seine dredge so you can see what grows in the sound and a great opportunity to explain how the fish we love to chase begin with the small criiters in the sound

Go to Manteo and walk around the waterfront- many small shops and walking friendly little coastal town flavor

Ocracoke?- start early as the ferries are back up but Monday is the best day to avoid crowds unless you can go on a turn over day

I can go on- there is much to do

oh- go crabbing at the Colington Bridge- fun cheap and tasty
