Anchor line

Postby mb82 » Fri Oct 02, 2009 2:14 pm

Ok kayakers how do you keep your anchor line from becoming a tangled mess. Last night was fun trying to set anchor with a line that had maybe 10ft of no mess and 60ft of birdsnest. Good thing the water was shallow otherwise I would have been headed out to sea a few times.

Take nylon 3 strand, soak it in salt water and let it dry in the sun a few times. It gets stiff enough not to tangle as badly. Also, don't put an inch more than you need in the boat. My bow anchor in the locker has 100' of rode, plenty for a real mooring. But I keep a little wreck anchor with a 20' rode for stopping the boat while I fish. Since I am mostly in the shallows, it is plenty and doesn't tangle as badly.
