Fishing around Propeller Slough 5-13

Postby RickC » Wed May 13, 2009 9:50 pm

I got out this morning, put in at propeller slough and fished around the area between there and off island. I almost stepped on a ray in shallow water, need to remember to do the stingray shuffle.

I only hooked, landed, and released one fish, an 18" striper. After releasing the striper I looked across the small slough I was fishing to see my kayak drifting away :o . I ended up jumping in up to my neck and swimming out to get my yak(lesson learned the hard way!). Despite all of the drama, it was a great morning to be out.

Glad you found some fish. Have you ever used a broom handle as an ancor? Run it down through one of your scuppers and then into the mud/sand cheaper then an ancor if you like to get off and wade.
Once you kill a cow, you got to make a burger.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to try this next time. It was a real eye opener watching my kayak drifting out across the sound without me, seems like every time I get out I learn something new.

I use a ski pole as an anchor with mine. most come with the little rope handles you can tie off to and they are very light and you hardly even know its there
