October 3/4 trip

Postby mb82 » Wed Sep 15, 2010 11:52 am

Who wants to go fight the propboats at HRBT and open the striper season with me?

You would think that would help. Drinking and boating does not work. That's all I got to say.

Who else? of course I have not looked at tides yet so the night might be a lot of waiting.

:edit: when I get home I will check my tidechart.

A light. I like the Yak Attack lights.

Aw come on, it is just this kind of situation that man invented coffee. Actually I understand driving late while tired. The last trip last year I was hitting the 24 hours awake mark with no caffeine when I got home, I knew I was in danger of falling asleep behind the wheel.

edit: add in a good headlamp. An 8wt is a good rod for down there, though early season 6wts are a lot of fun. The shorter the rod the better also I have found. At extreme high tides 9ft rods don't fit under the bridge. An anchor is a good idea to bring also incase you hang something really good you can drift away from the bridge and drop anchor then fight the fish on your terms not its.

Awesome. Looks like all I will be needing is a light for the kayak and maybe a float for my anchor. As for the rods im probably going to have to stick with a 9' unless you think my 7'6" 4wt might make for a fun night.

9ft works. There has only been one night I scraped my rod on the roof and that was the night the dock was underwater when I left. Dad got for Christmas a 7ft6in 8wt TFO. I will be useing my 6wt. 4 would be fun, till you hook a 7lber.

That little rod has handled rainbows in the 6lb range so I think it could take a striper. Might bring it just for kicks if I get to get down this year.

Bradley mine is not an invisapole but here is what I have. Got the light from wild river outfitters. You could probably make one yourself with pvc and shrink wrap.

Yep that is similar. You can google building one yourself. Been meaning to go to Harbor freight and get one of their 9led flashlights and build a second unit for friends to use.

Looked at the tides. Low is supposed to be at quarter past midnight. If there is a NE wind oh that could get interesting in there. Luckily only 30% moon so not a big tide.
