Painting a kayak

Postby RickC » Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:56 pm

I have a yellow sit on top kayak, planning to use it to do some waterfowl hunting this season. I made a burlap cover to put over it as not to scare the birds away.

I was wondering if anyone has tried painting their kayak and what the results were. I have read mixed results, really don't want to end up with a crappy paint job that needs to be touched up every time I take the yak out.

I like the burlap idea. I would consider the camo netting too. Mine is neon green. I have wondered how hard it would be to camo it up this fall. I want to see what happens when I shoot a 12ga from sitting on top on the water first.

Maybe something like this?

I could not find the link but there was one on kayaking fishing stuff where the guy used a redfish 12 and built something like this. He said it was stable enough to shoot any angle from.

On TV we have seen that both Krylon and Rustolem make spray paints especially for plastic. Might check those out.
