Amount of backing ??

Postby Doublehaul » Sat Nov 07, 2009 9:33 am

Looking at new reel to take albacore fishing, I am Assuming that 200 yds of 30# dacron would be adequate amount of backing for alberts. Input, comments, suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Yes, that should be enough if you are fishing from a boat. It is a minimum if you are fishing from shore, however. Remember, you can't fire up and chase them if you are shorebound and if you hook a big one, it is going to head for open water and you want enough to be able to withstand the run. Good luck. Hope you are planning to head down this year as it is looking like one of the best in years. Thanks and tight lines, mike
