Redfish Tackle

Postby GReich » Wed Mar 28, 2012 12:24 pm

I'm hoping to head down to KO's neck of the woods in a couple of weeks to try for some big reds on the fly, and since I have bugged him enough already on e-mail, I'll ask a few questions here.

Flies I am all set on.

What weight rod - 9 or 11? I have both.
Sinking or floating line?
Leader/tippet setup?

Many thanks in advance. :)

Gary

:D When sight fishing here 1st choice intermediate as the water is shallow. But a sinker will work as well. When we go out we have all 3 ready... a floater and popper (especially good if we find a school of stripers...

and intermediate and Clouser and a sinker and Clouer. Then all bases are covered. I have heard of 3 big reds caught so far this year but the water temp has gone down since then. One was weighed then released 59 pounds! Gary I got the gear just work on the time hope we can make it work. First big moon in April!!!!!!! Even though the video is stripers it is in the same place and conditions as the drum...1 to 3 feet of water.

Thanks Kendall!

I'm just excited about having some gear for once and not having to borrow, but can't wait to get down there.

Hickory shad the next two weeks, and then hopefully some reds!

Thanks again,

Gary

I have heard of 3 reds caught in the Bay so far. Several huge schools of reds have been seen outside Rudee...so they are getting close! Water temp at Kiptopeake this morning is 57....close! It should be at least 60 by Monday!

Sweet. Looks like perfect timing. PropTalk deadline is 4/6, so I have a 10- to 14-day window after that. :D
