Thanks to all again for your advice. I am a little biased toward St Croix because I catch a lot of trout and bass up here in the mountains on a 9' 6 wgt SC Avid. I cetainly don't have the experience in the salt like all of you and apreciate you taking your time to help. The Redington sounds tough to beat for the price.

Haven't fished the predator rod but you can have my st croix ultra legend 8# after you pry it from my cold dead hands. The ONLY reason it's no THE perfect rod for me is that mine is a two piece. Just sayin'....

I have a couple of st. croix legend ultra's and would not trade them for anything, I love the way they cast and fight fish, the 9' 8wt. is my all time favorite rod. Have tried lots of other rods, and love my glx and xi3, but that st croix is what I end up using the most. Unfortunately, I don't think they make this rod anymore.
