Goretex and saltwater wading

Postby 9ft4wt » Fri Jun 12, 2009 10:08 am

I have always been reluctant to wear my goretex waders in saltwater. Largely cause they are stocking foot and the sand issue would be a pain.

But I also heard somewhere that the salt in the water can plug the breathable holes or hurt the water repelling abilities.

Did a few web searches looking for answers and struck out.

Anybody know for sure what if any effect saltwater would have on goretex?

When I do wade saltwater in coldweather, I wear an old pair of rubberized bootfoots. They weigh a ton. Which is why I am asking. I am heading to Calif in July and waders may come in handy. don't want to ruin my trout waders and don't want to pack the rubberized ones.

9ft I wore my proguides on all of my kayak fishing trips last fall and of course went waist deep several times in them while launching and returning. Turned around and took them to Suzy Q this spring no leaks wore them durring the shad run no leaks. I always washed them off in the shower afterwords with the same water temp I take a show in... aka almost hot. I have not noticed a problem.

Stockingfoot breathable waders with felt sole wading boots = acceptable for OBX backwater fishing?
