Atlantic City NJ Fly Fishing

Postby BCflyfisher2012 » Sat Apr 09, 2011 2:24 pm

Headed up to Atlantic City, NJ for 2 days in mid May. WIll be arriving early on the 16th and leaving afternoon of the 17th so not a lot of time, but still would like to get my fly rod out. Anyone fished this area or know of any places to fish up there? Transportation and budget are very limited (foot transport only most likely).

Thanks

Bradley

There are a few jetties around right on the beach in AC, I know of one a little north of the Showboat casino. When the spring mullet run starts, and they start making their way out of the bays, any of the jetties along the beach can hold stripers and blues. I've seen the run happen any time here from late April to early June, weather usually plays a big part. The water is finally starting to warm up, just got into the low 50's here this week, so we're hoping it happens soon. Definitely bring your gear, and just get out on the beach and walk. You might be early enough that there won't be any restrictions, as you can't fish when the lifeguards are around (basically during the day from sometime in late May to Sept- nights are ok). And if you're heading out on the jetty, bring Korkers or studded boots, the rocks can get real slick out there.

Thanks. I will definitely bring the gear and try my luck one morning.

Not sure if the backwater areas will have stripers or not. Good sod banks back in there but not sure if you can access through the park or if you need a boat/yak. Will talk to my Philly crew to see what they say.
