Cape Lookout/Harkers Question

Postby BCflyfisher2012 » Sat Aug 21, 2010 11:59 pm

Well theres less than 8 weeks until I make what will be the first of hopefully many trips down to the area. What flies should I tie up for this outing and is there any specific gear that is recommended? I have one day booked with sarah and plan on either surf fishing or kayak fishing the other couple of days im down.

Im starting to get my gear together now since I've only got one week left until its back to the grind of college until right up until the day i leave.

thanks!
Bradley

when are you dates with fly girl--i think they are early October

Rods from 7 to 9 wt. She will have tackle but for on the beach --8s and 9s intermediate lines and sink tips are both useful. SInk tips like a 350 or 300 will work on both rod weights.

Flies--Clousers tie on #4 hooks 2 to 3 inches long--charteruse and white, grey and white, olive and white, pink and white will be fine. Small epoxy baitfish w ill work as well.

In the next week to month will try and post some fly photos

one more question. do you find that sparse is better than thicker flies for the clousers?

Even Bob Clouser recommends tying sparse.

Bradley
I know you have a nice sampleing to start with and copy. ;)
Reminds me I need to try to duplicate a few of those before fall comes and I get tempted to use up the orignals.
