Advise on stripping basket

Postby NevinT » Fri May 28, 2010 12:09 pm

New to the sport and will be fishing strictly from the surf. Looking for advise on choosing the right stripping basket for the job.

Take a look at this.....

I made one like his...do not put the heavy mono in(I did and it caused more problems than it was worth)....just plain dishwashing basket...drill holes in the bottom....big ones as you will need to empty of basket rapidly as a wave come or you get too deep.

Hint...they are great and terrible..some times both at the same time!

Try a time without one, then make one....buying one...??? They are nice in holding your line and keeping it there when you shoot line..that is a plus but in the ocean on OBX...the waves typically are too high and the wave will play havoc with the basket. Now, if you go around by Frisco, the waves are not as high. One huge problem now is where can you actually walk..legally. No problem sound side...they work great there!

Thanks Emerson; between your video, eski showing me his last night, and checking online for ideas, I made one today using the best features from all of them.
If I can get my kids to show me how to upload a picture to photobucket I will post a pic....

Nevin, Nice looking basket. When walking, just slip around back. Ed
