Welcome. My recommendation would be a St. Croix Rio Santo 8wt. It is a good all around entry level rod and casts like a dream plus its only $130 for the 4 piece model. As for reels, Im partial to my Tempest by SeaLevel. I bought it from toddkfly on here and it has far exceeded my expectations for the price. Im sure someone with more knowledge will add more but that's just my 2 cents. I love all of my St. Croix rods to death and even prefer them over my Scott. If you have a bigger budget, the Sage rods that I've fished with on Sarah's boat are all amazing rods they just cost a little more than I can cough up being a college student.

Hope this helps
Bradley

Try the link, Sage Launch for about 135 seems like a deal.

you might of wanted to go full swing BEFORE the hitching!!!!!!!!! j/k......Sometimes it's easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.........My 2cents on marriage, or maybe it was tresspassing on private property........it works either way..Sorry, couldn't resist.. Fifteen yrs. ago , just gotten married, bought a loomis glx 4wt, @ $600...my wife adopted a kitten the same day.... We both got home and said " oh, hell no...."...Needless to say, I still got the rod, and the cat's still here....The keyword in marriage is compromise...
