Carova Beach April 17-24

Postby PeteB » Fri Apr 09, 2010 5:52 pm

Hi - Heading to Carova (first time) in a week or so. Trying to find out a little information about Fly Fishing in that area. I spend the summers fishing the flat on Cape Cod but will be new to that part of the Outer Banks. Interested in any info I can get as to what is biting this time of year and any recommendations on locations. On a map, the inner bays look interesting but tough to tell from Boston area

Thanks for your help

it is still very early in our season--March is the coldest month of the year for us--so it takes a while to recover.

In the surf there should be small critters like croaker, sea mullets (kingfish) maybe some bluefish and outside chance of of a puppy drum. The sound back there is brackish or even fresh--should be some LMB and other stuff there. Might even find a schoolie or two.
Hopefully others will chime in with more info.

Ok Thanks. Better off just bringing some surf gear?

Always pack the fly rod. Even if only going to McDonald's.

These are wise words. Never go anywhere without at least one flyrod.

Yes take the flyrod. On the sound side you could get into some puppy drum, trout, stripers or LMB. The crabbers are telling me the fish are in the Currituck sound but I have not ran into them yet. Cant say I have fished it that hard yet though.
