Good one 9ft. That one was good. BTW you just broke that promise.

More croaker fishing out of the surf this morning. I took the kayak out and fished from the outside with the flyrod... note I didn't say I went flyfishing for them, you all can fill in the blank. On the way in the kayak took a tumble and opened the hatch letting sand and water in over my rods and gear. Already have cleaned out my flyreels, coulda made a sandcastle from what was in my 6wt reel.
This afternoon, New Inlet with my Dad and BIL. Wish us luck... or at least me luck I really don't care what they catch. Just Kidding.

Bravo. :D Accidents do happen. Though we often forget that a malicious looking event isn't always accompanied by similar intentions. Can't beat getting to rectify those accidents from time to time. Great story.

I was out for catfish yesterday, and the best channel of the day, about 24", got wrapped around a buoy line about 30 feet out. So I waded back to shore and doffed my gear. And with only my flyrod in hand, swam out to the buoy and landed the tangled fish by hand. After a quick admiration I let it go, salvaged the flies and swam back to shore. Always worth that extra effort.

Run off the water by storms again. Saw a few reds swimming around and several rays.
Question? What are the two species of rays down here. Saw one with a blunt nose and one with a more pointed nose. Neither wanted my flys :?

Jeff:

At least you are out there.

I think the blunt nose would be a cow-nose ray. Sharp nose ones i have seen have been skates.

I checked and there is also something called a blunt nose ray.

we need a local expert

Way to go Jeff,
BTW, I loved the story, that should be definitly a classic memory
I agree about those people who dont know about a flyfishers back cast

I tell you what up here on the northern beaches, we are getting a lot of wierd looks from folks while we are fishing.
We planning to meet and go out with hhcdr friday, hope we have better luck.

Good I will get a chance to meet up with you. I am waiting to be told where to be and what rod(s) to bring.

Actually this year I have been getting fewer weird looks about the flyrod. Other then the first day where the guy could not believe you can flyfish in saltwater.
