Puppy drum help -- Manteo

Postby crow » Wed Jun 25, 2014 9:53 pm

Hi folks,

My family got a condo in Manteo 6/29-7/5. I'd like to catch some puppy drum while I'm down there, but a guided trip isn't in the cards, so I'll be wading on my own. I've never caught redfish before -- right now I fish for stripers on Cape Cod, where I live.

Any advice on fly patterns and particular tides to fish? And what sort of fly line should I use -- intermediate? Floating?

I have a couple vague tips on where to fish, but if you have any suggestions, I'd be grateful.

Thanks!
Matt

i know very little about wading but you might try around Oregon Inlet Fishing Center--there was a school of reds there but they got severely pounded but i think there might be some still scattered reds near the bridge.
