April 11

Postby Reefing » Mon Apr 12, 2010 8:43 am

Went out again yesterday. Beautiful day, went out of the inlet and found lots of bait just outside the inlet. Fished around the bait schools for a few hours for nothing. Steamed to the Zane Grey and bottom fished for no luck. Ran back inside, fished the pond, Broad creek and Croatan Sound marsh points for no love. Water had cooled to 62-64 degrees, I'm starting to get discouraged, sure wish it would turn on.

Fished out of hatteras yesterday....The bluefins were rising like trout down to your southeast...fun to watch but a bit harder to land. They were very picky fish. We ended up getting some tiles for dinner off the bottom on the way back in.

As nice as it was yesterday I kept thinking it would be nice to try to throw a fly at one. A bit too deep out there to land one I would think.....I don't think my budget could handle the damage to the tackle but it sure would be fun while it lasted.

At this point Woody, I would take just about anything. Last three trips were a big skunk.

baits are sparse and small probably due to the fresh cold water
my commercial fishing buddies tell me that they are loaded up with catfish, carp, an occassional rock and/or drum
seen a couple of very small flounder
no rain for a week will really help
