VCFA House Report #6

Postby fishermike » Fri Oct 21, 2016 7:55 pm

Hi! Another great day on the water today. :D We got a late start and didn't get out to the #4 marker until around 8:15 and things were already going off. There were at least 10 boats around President's Point and more inside the hook and the albies were everywhere. We quickly got in line and had an albie hookup for our albie virgin, but he had his drag set a little tight and it broke off. Then we landed a nice Spanish before a day of frustration. It seemed everyone around us was hooking up, but we couldn't get any cooperation until later in the day. Lucky for the house we had our little 14' that could that was consistently hooking up all day and finally ended the day hooking 21 and landing 15 with three doubles. Our other boat ended the day with 6 hooked and 3 landed and one double, giving the house a total of 153 hooked and 99 landed. We finally got our albie virgin his first albie and it was a double hookup later in the day inside the hook. We caught most of the fish inside and around the hook with a few off of Shackleford Island and a few off the #2 marker. This makes it 5 days in a row that has seen albies around the hook. We can just hope the blow tonite and tomorrow will not screw up that pattern too badly. I know all of you may think I am obsessed with numbers, but they do give us a good comparison with years past and we are on pace for the most hooked and landed in the 19 years we have been coming down here. A truly epic year is well on it's way, but a day on the water would be good even if there were no albies,or any other fish for that matter, caught. What really matters is being able to get out on the water, the albies are just the icing on the cake for most of us. Since tomorrow will be a blow out day for most of us, think about stopping by the house to share some stories, many of us will be tying flies and watching football. Tight lines, mike buss
